Dr. Hugh Cassiere
Dr. Cassiere is the Director for Critical Care Services at the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital in Manhasset, New York. Born and raised in Richmond Hill, Queens, he first attended St John’s University before transferring to complete his Bachelor’s degree at NYU and then going on to earn his MD from Stonybrook. Hugh completed his residency at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY where he was then promoted to Medical Director of the Cardiac ICU; a position he also held at Lenox Hill hospital as well as St. Michael’s Hospital before joining Northwell Health in 2007.
“Don’t hear, listen” is the quote Hugh shared to describe the most important lesson he’s learned in life and it’s something that he applies everyday in his leadership role at Northwell. As the medical director of a multi-disciplinary environment, he takes a collaborative approach to leadership and encourages the input of all staff members in providing exceptional patient care. Hugh considers Dr. Michael Neiderman to be his greatest mentor from the early days of his residency at Winthrop and he strives to promote a similar culture of mentor-ship and respect in his department.
Dr. Cassiere has been featured numerous times by NBC, CBS, ABC, and News12 since the very start of the COVID-19 Pandemic and brings invaluable insights to our programs as the Medical Director for Critical Care Services at one of the hardest hit hospitals in the country.
